Mike Tyson vowed revenge on Larry Holmes for beating Muhammed Ali



Muhammad Ali is known by many names such as “The Greatest”, “The People’s Champion” and “Louisville Lip”.  He fought in a total of 61 fights and won 56 with 37 wins by KO and lost 5 fights.

At the age of 12 Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr (the name he was known as then) began training after his bike was stolen and he vowed to “whup whoever stole” his bike. After 6 months of training Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr won his debut match and dedicated himself to boxing.  When Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr reached 22 years old he won the heavy weight championship in 1964. In 1975 Cassius Marcellus, Jr converted to Sunni Islam and became Muhammad Ali.

Mike Tyson is also known by many names such as “The Baddest Man on the Planet”, “Kid Dynamite” and “Iron Mike”. He fought in 58 fights and won 50 with 44 wins by KO and lost 6 fights.   At 22 years old Mike Tyson held the record for the youngest boxer to win the WBC, WBA and IBF heavy weight titles and he defended the worlds heavy weight title 9 times. Mike Tyson won his fights with Larry Holmes and Frank Bruno.

In 1980 when Mike Tyson was 14 he went to watch his hero Muhammad Ali fight Larry Holmes.  Muhammad Ali lost this fight.  The next morning Tyson spoke to Muhammad Ali on the phone and he said:

“When I grow up, I’ll fight Holmes and I’ll get him back for you.”

After 7 years at the age of 21 Mike Tyson got the opportunity to forfull his promise.  Muhammad Ali sat in the ringside and Muhammad Ali said to Mike Tyson before the fight:

“Remember what you said – get him for me”

In round 4 with just 7 seconds left before the bell Mike Tyson gave a final right hook which dropped Holmes for the third time. And Mike Tyson the youngest Heavyweight Champion made sure every one knew he was here to stay.
